Why Glenn Maxwell Has Failed To Perform In IPL 2020?

In the ongoing Indian Premier League, 2020 – KXIP is really finding some tough time on the field and currently, they are standing at the bottom of the table with only one win in their kit.

Kings 11 Punjab’s squad has really good star players like – KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, James Neesham, Glenn Maxwell, Shami, Sheldon Cottrell, and many more. Despite the start line up in their team, they have failed to impressed this season.

They have a game tonight against RCB – if they really want to keep themselves in the race, they need to win all the remaining 7 league games with good margins and then will have a chance to be in the playoffs. Well to be very open they are near to the closed doors of the playoffs.

Well, there were many cricketing experts from the commentary box and offfield players – “Raising Question on Glenn Maxwell’s form”.

In this season – out of 7 matches, Maxwell has scored only 58 runs till now and his highest runs in a particular inning is only 13 runs and he has a really bad average of 14.50 and strike rate of 95.08.

In this article, let’s get deep down to the grounds – “Why Glenn Maxwell has failed to perform this season?”

1. Proper Role In Side:

Maxwell has joined the KXIP camp after playing a match-winning knock for Australia against England. And in that series, he has performed really good.

And coming to his role in the Australian side is very clear – there was no change in his batting position or responsibilities that he had to offer to the side. But coming to IPL 2020, Maxwell’s role has been changing probably for every single match.

Even in a recent post-match interview, Maxwell has admitted himself by saying – “I probably would not (compare IPL and Australia career). The way I have played international cricket, it has been more of a clearer role. I know exactly how the guys will bat around me”

He even added that – “My role in IPL changes probably for most games. In IPL, a lot of teams change their sides a lot. In the Australian set-up, we have the same eleven for most of the games, we all know our roles really well,” Maxwell said.

Maybe the KXIP franchise has not given him that constant role in the side and there’s the other side of the coin too – despite many opportunities Maxwell has failed to adapt to his dynamic role, for which the Punjab camp is looking for.

2.  Lack Of Opportunities:

If you look at the KXIP camp batting order – the top three batsmen have face more balls and they have been at the crease till the 15th over and on a few occasions, it was more than that.

And by the time Maxwell used to come at the crease, there were only a few balls left for him to play and that was not going right for him.

He wanted to face some balls and get used to the pitch condition – but the real fact was he has not faced many balls.

Even Maxwell expressed his feeling about his batting form by saying – “If you look at our batting order, three of the guys batting ahead of me are among the top-10 run-scorers in the tournament. It doesn’t leave a lot of runs for the guys batting below. I have been not out three times. Probably it shows how little amount of balls I am getting at the end of the innings. I am still trying to do the best I can. I am still batting well. A month ago, I probably played one of the best innings (108) of my career in England” – Maxwell said.

3. Adaptability:

KXIP wanted Maxwell to take that finishing role and give them that much needed quick 30 or 40 runs at the end. But he has proved the management wrong every single match. He has to adapt to the pitch conditions as quickly as possible and give them that much-needed runs and he has failed to do both of them.

Well, we certainly feel that maybe it was too many expectations from the Australian all-rounder.

And it is quite depressing to this but, he has failed to perform on many occasions and there were few games where the franchise needed him the most, but still, in these games, he has not been to the mark.
