Who Is The Right Choice To Replace Bumrah?

Jasprit Bumrah made his debut in 2016 in Australia. India has played 4 ICC events since Bumrah has been a part of all of them. T20 World Cup 2022 will be the first time when he will be missing out on an ICC event. His injury leaves India with a deep hole in the pace bowling department. India has left for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia without the 15th member. The team is yet to finalize Who Is The Right Choice To Replace Bumrah.

We look at who is the right choice to replace Bumrah:

#3 Mohammad Siraj

He certainly doesn’t have flattering numbers in T20Is. Mohammad Siraj walked into the Indian team owing to consistent performances in list-A cricket. He soon became one of the frontline pacers in the Test team. Siraj had a breakthrough IPL season in 2021. He became RCB’s go-to bowler during IPL 2021.

Siraj bowled brilliantly with both the new and the old ball. His efforts yielded results for other bowlers in the team. But an indifferent IPL 2022 pegged him back in the pecking order. Siraj has pace and a fiery attitude but does the team management trust his white-ball skills? It is a question that begets all fans.

#2 Deepak Chahar

He is one of the most promising pacers in India’s white-ball pool. Deepak Chahar swings the ball both ways in helpful conditions. He is a much-improved death bowler too. Chahar possesses a mean bouncer that can outsmart the batsmen. He in fact holds the Indian record for best bowling figures in T20Is (6-7).

Chahar is a handy batsman down the order. He can be counted on to deliver crucial blows at the end of an innings. India has been playing with a long tail that has constantly cost them runs in the middle. Chahar can solve both problems for the team.

#1 Mohammad Shami

He seems to be the frontrunner to replace Jasprit Bumrah at the moment. If not for covid, Mohammad Shami would have been in action in the bilateral series featuring Australia and South Africa. This could have given the selectors an opportunity to look at his form and fitness. But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Shami last played a T20I in the T20 World Cup last year. He looked out of sorts as a T20 bowler in that edition. Shami bounced back strongly in IPL 2022 winning the title with the Gujarat Titans. He is the closest among all options who could replace Bumrah. But it will be a big gamble to go with him directly in the World Cup.
