West Indies Clear Second Round Of COVID 19 Test Ahead Of New Zealand Tour

The Contingent Will Undergo Their Final Test Next Week:

The second of their three Covid-19 tests on Friday was cleared by all members of the West Indies team and support staff currently on tour in New Zealand. Next week, just before their two-week quarantine finishes, they will undergo their final exam.

The players and support staff were housed on the outskirts of Christchurch at the NZC High-Performance Centre at Lincoln University. Until Saturday, the contingent will practice, attend gym sessions and socialise within three bubbles that contain a maximum of 15 members. The camp can be divided into two bubbles, each containing a maximum of 20 participants, from Sunday until the end of their 14-day quarantine next week.

Seven members of the 35-strong West Indies contingent-T20I Captain Kieron Pollard, Test Captain Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Nicholas Pooran and Oshane Thomas-will arrive in New Zealand only after the IPL closes in the UAE on 10 November.

Among the teams that have made the IPL playoffs are Pollard, Holder, Allen, Hetmyer and Paul. These seven players-six of whom are members of the T20I team-will only finish their quarantine on the eve of the first T20I in Auckland on 27 November.

After a 54 hour trip, including transit, from the Caribbean, the rest of the tour party arrived. Three T20Is in total will be played by West Indies, followed by two test matches in Hamilton (3-7 December) and Wellington (11-15 December).

Since the Covid-19 pandemic brought a worldwide pause in global cricket, West Indies are the only foreign team to have embarked on two overseas tours. In July, before this New Zealand tour, they played three Tests in England.
