WBBL Mid Season Report: Sixers on top, Thunder and Renegades way behind

WBBL Mid-Season Report: The Women’s Big Bash League has completed its halfway mark and now it’s time to review the performances of the teams so far and their chances to qualify for the knockouts and a final game.

Let’s take a look a quick look at how the teams fared so far in the Women’s Big Bash League 2022.

Sydney Sixers

The current table toppers, Sydney Sixers have done everything right in the tournament so far, their 6 wins in 7 games and 12 points gave them the first position at the points table after the completion of the halfway stage of the event.

Both of their departments performed extremely well in the tournament, which is the major reason behind their success in the league and they will look to carry forward this momentum to qualify for the knockouts and then play the final on November 20.

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat, who just recorded a victory over Sydney Thunder by 14 runs moved up on the points table and now sitting on second spot. Their top-two batters, Georgia Redmayne, Grace Harris impressed the most in this season so far. Redmayne is right-now the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 289 in 8 games.

While Grace Harris is also not behind, she is at fifth spot with 187 in 7 games. The skipper Jess Jonassen is the real star of the side, having bagged 16 wickets in 8 games, and currently topping the highest wicket-taker in the league chart.

Perth Scorchers

After starting the tournament on a high not with 3 consecutive fifties, Perth side lost their momentum after a rain called-off fourth game and lost 2 out of their 3 games after that. They have some quality players in their team and the side is expecting them to perform as per their reputation to keep them in knockouts contention.

Scorchers looking comfortable right now on points table with 4 wins in 7 games and 9 points on their side.

Adelaide Strikers

The fourth positioned team on table has witnessed 4 wins and 3 losses so far, but it was really a great comeback by them, as their start at the tournament was not that promising as they lost their first 2 games. Now, however, at the halfway stage they are on the safe side with 8 points and the net run-rate is on their side too. The team will aim to maintain this momentum to remain in the competition.

Hobart Hurricanes

Win and loss status of Hobart halted them at fifth spot at the points table after the tournament completed their halfway mark. There are so many stars present in the squad but the inconsistency of them cost the side some games. They have so far claim victories in 3 games while lost 2 and one was called off due to rain. Currently carrying 7 points, the Elyse Villani side will try to rectify the errors and become a part of final four teams at the end 56 games.

Melbourne Stars

Stars, who earned first victory in their fifth match is now standing at sixth position, it’s not that they don’t have quality players, but their inconsistency is one of the reasons behind tei debacle. Still they have 6 points thanks to 2 victories and 2 called-offs and they have a chance to reach knockouts if they perform well in their remaining 7 games.

Sydney Thunder

The first time on the table, who is having net run-rate in minus. Only won 1 game out 7, while two called-off due to rain. The Thunder side facing the heat this time in the league and with just 4 points their position is seventh.

Their batters provide good start but the finishers were not working on the expected line. Their opener Phoebe Litchfield is the second highest run-scorer in the league right now, but a lack of consistency from the finishers dented their hopes so far.

Melbourne Renegades

After starting the tournament on a high note with a win over Adelaide Striker by 4 wickets, the Melbourne Renegades side lost the track and lost all their 6 games after that. With only 2 points at the points table, although they have yet to play another 7 games, but their chances are highly unlikely to qualify for the knockouts.
