The BCCI declared that Rohit Sharma will succeed Virat Kohli as the next captain of the Indian cricket team in one-day internationals (ODIs), beginning with the series versus South Africa. In Test match cricket, Kohli will continue to lead the team.

In addition, mainstays Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been picked to the Test team for the series versus the SA, giving them one more opportunity to establish their ability with the bat in the whites.

Sharma will also take over as the Indian Test team’s vice-captain, succeeding Ajinkya Rahane. Hanuma Vihari, also joins the Indian side for the Test series versus South Africa.

India’s wicketkeepers for the forthcoming Test series are Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha. Due to injury concerns, prominent Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, opening batsman Shubman Gill and left-arm spinner Axar Patel will miss the South Africa series.
