Unacademy Picks Bid Papers, Ready To Compete For IPL Title Sponsorship

Unacademy is eyeing the league’s title sponsorship rights:

Unacademy is already one among the sponsors of IPL, and now concentrating on the title sponsorship of the league. It is perfectly ready to submit its bid to replace the Chinese handset manufacturer, Vivo this season.

A senior official of BCCI stated that Unacademy, the education technology firm has picked up the bid papers but abstained to make any comments regarding it.

The senior official told PTI “I can only give confirmation that Unacademy has shown its keen interest and picked up the bidding papers. I have heard that they will submit a bid and very serious about it. So, if Patanjali bid, there will be heavy competition to take 2020 IPL title sponsorship. The Chinese company Vivo paid Rs 440 crore annually but dropped out his name from the partnership with BCCI because of the Sino-India border conflict.

The India Cricket Board, BCCI is now looking for a lesser bid- between Rs 300 to 350 crore for a time period of four months 13 days. The BCCI official said Unacademy is already part of the central sponsorship pool of IPL from 2020 to 2023 with other organizations such as Paytm and Dream11.”

When asked what is the actual difference between title sponsorship and central sponsorship, then the official said that the central sponsorship doesn’t have jersey rights.

He explained “In IPL, apart from those sponsors of different teams, jersey logo can only be of title sponsor. If any company becomes the title sponsor, then it will provide rights on different branding properties, like the famous space in the background board in the post-match presentation area, background in boundary rope as well as in dugout. Along with media and digital facilities, many branding facilities are included in this partnership”.

An insider of Unacademy said “ The company is set to take the big decision. Unacademy has complete Indian investment. And associating for four and half months is just perfect with a big brand like IPL to broaden their horizons.”
