IPL 2022: Umran’s 5-Wicket Haul Rented Him Man Of The Match Space In GT’s Win

The 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, contested between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, concluded in a dramatic way. However, GT thrashed SRH by 5 wickets in the clash, but SRH speedster Umran Malik grabbed the spotlight with his excellent bowling, taking umran malik’s 5-wicket haul in the IPL. Umran Malik is undoubtedly a huge asset for the Hyderabad franchise as he brought for INR 4 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Umran Malik was the only bowler who appeared to be highly consistent in the match, restricting the GT hitters from scoring runs. Back-to-back breakthroughs with his bowling allowed SRH to exhale a sigh of relief. GT has made a solid start to their innings in pursuit of SRH’s score of 196.

Despite winning the toss, GT asked SRH to bat first, and Abhishek Sharma (65 off 42 balls) and Aiden Markram (56 off 40 balls) held strong for the side with a stunning 96-run batting order partnership. SRH seemed to be on track for a decent total. However, in the final over of the innings, Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh 25* off 6 balls struck Lockie Ferguson for 4 maximums, bringing the final score to 195/6 in 20 overs.

Following Wriddhiman Saha’s outburst of 68 off 38 deliveries with 11 fours and one six, Kane Williamson eventually got his dominant role out, as Umran Malik was sent out to bowl. He had an instant impact, dismissing Shubman Gill with a magnificent yorker and then bouncing off GT skipper Hardik Pandya.

A blazing 153 kmph yorker from Umran upset Saha, who was playing well to take GT approaching the objective. Meanwhile, David Miller was bowled after receiving a 148 kmph inswinger that went at length and wrecked his midwicket, and Abhinav Manohar was really just disappointed to arrive to bat while Umran had his head up and grabbed a length delivery at the middle stump clocked at 146 kmph.

Umran Malik completed with 5/25 after grabbing all 5 GT wickets that dropped. After his brilliant spell against GT Malik was awarded the player of the match. He also received praises from all corners of the world for his consistent performance.

“I always bowl fast but I’ve been trying to bowl better lines and lengths. The plan was to rotate my plans. Idea was to attack the stumps and it worked well for me. 155 (kph), hopefully, it happens, but the main goal is to bowl well and pick wickets for my team”, said Umran Malik at the post-match presentation.
