Rohit Sharma’s new wave in Indian cricket has begun, and his 1st ODI task in a full-time role has gone much more successful, as the Men in Blue smashed the West Indies side by 6 wickets, India Wins 1000th ODI  taking a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. As the visiting side was knocked out for 176, spin combination Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar delivered brilliant spells.

India’s hunt was quite straightforward, as they reached the finish line with 6 wickets in hand. It’s worth noting that the match made history, as the hosts became the first team to play in 1000 ODIs. Rohit Sharma’s team added to the significance of the moment by winning magnificently.

India had won the toss and decided to bowl at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the first game. The batting order of the West Indies witnessed a dramatic collapse as wickets dropped in quick succession. The Men in Maroon were on the edge of being swept out under 100 after being dropped to 79/7. Former captain Jason Holder teamed up with Fabien Allen, and the combo demonstrated some determination.

Chahal awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for incredible four-wicket haul

West Indies achieved 176 in 43.5 overs owing to the former’s half-century. India had almost no difficulty crossing the mark along with projected parameters. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started the innings, and the pair took the opponents out of the action.

With Rohit, who targeted bowlers right away, Kishan was inclined to take his way. As the starters contributed 84 runs for the 1st wicket, the Indian captain struck a brilliant half-century. The sudden departures of Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant brought some intensity to the match.

Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav, teamed up with debutant Deepak Hooda to ensure there’s no surprise in the scenario. They promptly scored 62 runs for the 5th wicket, allowing the hosts to reach the finish line in just 28 overs. For his incredible four-wicket haul, Chahal was awarded ‘Player of the Match’.

It’s worth mentioning that India is lacking a number of prominent players who have came back positive for COVID-19. This aspect, in particular during the first game, did not bother the hosts. However,  West Indies, have a lot of analysis and homework to do before the 2nd match.
