5 Most Dangerous Playing XI Of All-Time In IPL History

IPL is arguably the best franchise-run tournament in the world. Teams get to build their teams every 3 years through a mega auction. There was just a single team before 2013 that believed in having a strong core and that was CSK. They never really changed their core up until 2018. The idea behind having a settled unit was to go all out every season. MI and KKR both teams successfully deployed the CSK model from 2013 and 2014 respectively. It doesn’t come as a surprise that these are the teams that have won the IPL multiple times. Here Are Top 5 Dangerous Team In IPL.

There have been many sides that have looked by far the best in the league across its history. The one team that comes to mind is Kings XI Punjab from 2014. Similarly, Delhi had a stellar campaign in 2009 and 2012. We look at 5 such invincible sides of IPL throughout its tournament history.

Top 5 Dangerous Team In IPL:

#5 Mumbai Indians (2020)

The Mumbai Indians of 2020 were on an altogether different league. They were a team filled with stars. The fact that all those star players fired in unison made other teams look too small in comparison to MI.

They virtually seemed unbeatable right from the word goes. Their top 7 that season was probably the best batting unit ever assembled in IPL history.

#4 Kolkata Knight Riders (2014)

Kolkata Knight Riders were a struggling bunch in the initial phase of IPL 2014. They lost games from winning positions. KKR had won just 2 out of their first 7 games. From then on they completely turned around their campaign most spectacularly. They won 9 out of their 9 remaining games and emerged champions.

Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shakib-Al-Hasan all contributed with the bat at different scenarios for KKR. Umesh Yadav, Morne Morkel, and Sunil Narine delivered with the ball. They were unstoppable in the second half of the league.

#3 Chennai Super Kings (2013)

Chennai Super Kings had an all-encompassing team in 2013. They had the orange cap holder, Michael Hussey (733 runs), and purple cap holder, Dwayne Bravo (32 wickets) in their ranks. Ravichandran Ashwin, Albie Morkel, Suresh Raina, Mohit Sharma, Chris Morris, and MS Dhoni formed the core team.

They were at the top of the points table by quite a margin. The fact that they lost the finals still comes as a surprise considering their dominance throughout the tournament.

#2 Kings XI Punjab (2014)

Kings XI Punjab in 2014 played a brand of cricket that was still in its infant stages in T20 cricket. Their intention to hit every ball for six was never heard of before. They won 11 games out of 14 on the league stage and looked mighty impressive. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller announced themselves to the world during this season.

The leadership of George Bailey also played a key part in Punjab’s showing. Virender Sehwag, Manan Vohra, and Wriddhiman Saha chipped in beautifully when needed.

#1 Deccan Chargers (2009)

Deccan Chargers had finished as wooden spooners in the inaugural season of IPL (2008). Their turnaround to emerge champions in the next season is one of the highlights of IPL even now. Adam Gilchrist masterminded their campaign.

The likes of Andrew Symonds, Rohit Sharma, Herschelle Gibbs formed the batting core. Pragyan Ojha, RP Singh, and Fidel Edwards were on top of their game in the bowling front. They rightfully finished as champions in IPL 2009.
