The Lankans weren’t considered favourites going into the competition, and they had to compete against minnows in the qualifiers to advance to the tournament’s super four. But despite all the difficulties, the island country was able to triumph. They won against Pakistan in the final after defeating India and Pakistan in the super four. Wanindu Hasaranga selected as the tournament’s top player. Due to Sri Lanka’s extensive financial problems this year, their victory had added value.
