I Think Probably A Bigger Factor- Pat Cummins
Australia vice-captain Pat Cummins claimed on Sunday that the team played ‘less violently’ during India’s 2018-19 tour owing to the implications of the ball-tampering event, and not that they wanted to establish good relations with the Indian teams.
Pat Cummins’response came after a recent comment by former Aussie captain Michael Clarke that the players were frightened of sledging India because of IPL, and therefore “sucked up” to Kohli and his squad.
Based on the comments, Cummins said players in the wake of the sandpaper gate fiasco were potentially more worried about the team’s reputation.
“I think the media and everybody reporting on the Aussie cricket team were pretty straightforward about their approach about the path they expected the Aussies team to move and it was played out a bit less vigorously on the pitch,” he said.
Michael Clarke Said Everybody Knows How Powerful India…:
“I must say that on the cricket field, it should have been a more significant concern than attempting to win or lose buddies out. Yet you never know, for individual players, this may have been a factor,” Pat Cummins added on.
Last week, in an interview, Michael Clarke said: “Everybody knows how strong India is in terms of the game’s financial aspect, globally or domestically through the IPL.”
“I believe like Australian cricket, and possibly every other team in a brief period went the reverse and sucked upon India. We were too ashamed to sledge Virat Kohli or the other players from India because they have to compete with them in April, “he said.
