Joe Root form ahead of Ashes 2025

England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick has heaped praise on star batter Joe Root, lauding his form and consistency ahead of the Ashes 2025 series against Australia. Trescothick believes Root has taken his game “to the next level,” showcasing complete control and confidence with the bat. So let’s have a look at Joe Root form ahead of Ashes 2025.

Root’s Form Ahead of Ashes 2025

Root enters the marquee Ashes series as the top-ranked batter in the ICC Men’s Test Rankings, reflecting his remarkable form in the past few years. Despite dominating at home, Root is yet to score a century in Australia — a record he will be keen to change in the upcoming series.

The 34-year-old has played 14 Tests Down Under but hasn’t reached triple figures in any of them, even though he boasts 39 centuries in his illustrious career.

Trescothick Lauds Root’s Growth Under McCullum

Trescothick credited Root’s resurgence to England’s aggressive “Bazball” approach under head coach Brendon McCullum. The assistant coach expressed confidence that Root’s current mindset and form could help him finally break his century drought in Australia.

“The way he’s gone in the last couple of years shows how comfortable he is with his game. His batting has gone to the next level — that’s why he’s where he is in the rankings,” Trescothick told ICC.
“You’d be surprised if he doesn’t continue that same form in the Ashes.”

England’s Preparation for Perth Test

England will play one three-day warm-up match against the England Lions at Lilac Hill in Perth before the Ashes opener. Trescothick confirmed that every squad member will get an opportunity to feature in the warm-up ahead of the first Test starting November 21 at the Perth Stadium.

He also clarified that performances in the warm-up match are unlikely to alter England’s settled team composition, which has been consistent under Stokes and McCullum.

“We’ve been very consistent with our selections,” Trescothick said.
“We won’t make drastic changes just because someone scores 150 or takes five wickets in the warm-up.”
