Markram has enjoyed great success with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, SRH’s SA20 team, and most recently guided them to the victory in the first SA20 tournament
Kane Williamson, who was released by the team and then joined the reigning champion Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2023 auction, will now be replaced by the 29-year-old.
The Proteas all-rounder had a fantastic IPL season in 2022. Scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63, with a strike rate of over 139, and three half-centuries.
“What’s going to happen, to be honest… either way we back the management’s decision about who they want to be in charge,” Markram had said during the SA20.
Markram has played as an one-man army for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the inaugural SA20, where he scored 336 runs with the bat, and struck a century in the process.
He recorded the half-century in the semi-final game, and he took 11 wickets overall during the competition.
