BCCI On India And Australia Series:
The situation of the Covid-19 leaving the cricketing calendar ripped to shreds, and concerns are being asked this year about India’s Tour to Australia. India is scheduled to fly to Australia this year for a bilateral series, but how the cricketing world looks after the post of the coronavirus pandemic remains uncertain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Treasurer Arun Dhumal said in an interview with a leading sports website that India is ready to take all security steps to carry out the bilateral series.
Dhumal said in the interview that, upon entering Australia, India is willing to undergo a quarantine period. “There is no alternative – that’ll have to be done by everybody. You’d want the cricket to resume,’ he said.
“If we’re sure cricket can restart, then we can only make a final call on that,” he said.
“Before the lockout, this debate [on five tests] took place. It will be up to the boards to determine whether there is a window open if they want to go for a test match or maybe two ODIs or maybe two T20s. Because of the revenue loss they would have due to lockdown, they would most definitely want sales and income from ODIs or T20s even more than a test match after lockdown.
“Because of this lockout and COVID-19, there has been a lot of revenue loss for every board in that respect, and they will have to think about it,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of holding this year’s T20I World Cup, senior BCCI official said it will be hard to hold this year’s global event with teams coming out of lockdown.
“They have long been out of the cricket. Would you like to go and watch [the] World Cup without practicing for that long and straight away? “And he said. “It’s a call that every board will take. It seems to be tough.’
The BCCI treasurer, on being asked about plans to hold IPL this year, said the board has not yet made any final decisions on the matter. “As of now, we’ve not arranged anything,” Dhumal said. “We can’t see IPL coming back yet.
“Players coming in from other countries, whether they’ll be willing to come here and be quarantined for two weeks and play IPL is not known. How can we think of IPL? This is all media speculation. There is nothing as of now. Once things get clear, then only will we be able to go back to the drawing board and think about re-starting cricket,” he said.
