Since 2019, the Indian Test expert hasn’t hit a century and has recently had a string of poor scores. The fact that he hasn’t figured out how to get out is a significant issue. Since 2018, his average has been 31, which is much lower than his career-high of 45. Salman Butt has weighed in on who he thinks would be able to replace Pujara in the playing XI for the 3rd Test.

“Pujara is struggling. The conditions are also tough. If India wants, they can give Suryakumar Yadav a chance. It all depends on what Virat Kohli thinks, what the coach thinks,” Butt said in an Interaction.

It goes without saying that Pujara has been a crucial gear in India’s wheel. He has picked on the responsibility of being steady on the field and is regarded as a reliable player in red-ball cricket.

Butt highlighted out that it could be too soon to dismiss him based on his previous results. Given his knowledge of English conditions, he believes that regardless of Pujara’s current form, he should be given that opportunity.

“As of now, three innings have been played. I feel it is too early to bring in a youngster in such testing conditions. It will be a really tough task for him. Pujara, on the other hand, is dependable and he has performed before in these conditions. He has failed so far but let’s give him one more Test,” Butt said.

Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw are available for the Indian team, giving them a powerful reserve. Following Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill, and Avesh Khan were forced out of the series due to injury, the pair was brought in as substitutes.

The hosts have battled out the whole 2nd Test day and have taken a 27-run advantage. Team India will now be looking to set a strong objective that they can defend subsequently.
