The Delhi Capitals were just one win away from qualifying for the playoffs in 2022. It would have been their fourth straight season into the playoffs had they made it. Delhi had no one else but themselves to blame for their inability to move to the next round. On paper, the side had one of the strongest lineups in the competition.

The batting had firepower while the bowling had variety but the side failed to click on crucial occasions. DC without their talisman, Rishabh Pant who was also the captain last year looks grossly undercooked.

We analyze the Delhi Capitals Strength and Weakness in IPL 2023:

Delhi Capitals (DC) Strengths:

#1 A strong core:

The Delhi Capitals have a strong core comprising domestic and international stars. There are proven performers in the setup who could individually light up the game. Delhi will need their core group to come together if they are to have a shot at glory this season.

#2 An unexpected but proven captain:

David Warner is one of the few IPL captains who know the art of winning. The southpaw had led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a famous title win in 2016. He will be leading the Delhi franchise this year in the absence of their regular captain, Rishabh Pant. Delhi will be counting on Warner’s experience to ride them through might what might be their most difficult season till now.

#3 Players waiting to prove a point:

There are a lot of players in the Delhi setup who are on the fringes of national selection. They are yet to cement their spot in their respective teams. The upcoming IPL could be a fine opportunity for these players to serve as a reminder to the national selectors. Players like Prithvi Shaw, Khaleel Ahmed, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yash Dhull will be rearing to go this season.

Delhi Capitals Weakness:-

#1 Lack of proven Indian middle-order batsmen:

Shreyas Iyer’s exit did affect Delhi Capitals last year. They hardly had any Indian batter to partner Rishabh Pant in the middle overs. With an injury to Pant this season they are bound to get hampered even more. The likes of Lalit Yadav, Manish Pandey, and Sarfaraz Khan need to step up big-time this season.

#2 Indian pace bowling options:

Delhi traded Shardul Thakur to KKR for an all-cash deal ahead of IPL 2023 auctions. This move has left them with hardly any proven Indian right-arm seam option. Delhi does have Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya in the squad but they have a surplus of left-arm seamers with Mustafizur Rahman in the mix. They need to find their perfect bowling combination soon enough to settle down in the intensely competitive league.

#3 Fielding the best overseas players:

Delhi’s strength undoubtedly is their overseas bunch. They have plenty of stars in their ranks to intimidate any opposition. Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell, and Anrich Nortje are certain starters in the playing XI. DC bought Rilee Rossouw for a handsome sum of INR 4.6 crores. DC has the option of Lungi Ngidi and Rahman who are proven performers in T20 cricket. It is imperative for them to find the overseas combination at the earliest.
