Bangladesh’s ODI captain Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladesh batter to reach the 8,000 ODI runs mark.

Iqbal achieved this milestone during his team’s first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday. Interestingly, he also received the honour of reaching 5000, 6000 and 7000 runs in the ODI format as the first batter for Bangladesh.

He played a brilliant half-century knock in the game to complete his 54th in ODI matches. His knock set the platform for a big total as a result Bangladesh managed to post a good total of 303 runs in the 50 overs.

The skipper of Bangladesh is in red-hot form these days both as captain and opening batter. In the recently concluded series against West Indies, he won the player of the series title after leading his side to a 3-0 whitewash in ODI series in their home. He finished the series as the highest run-scorer in the 3-match series, scoring 117 runs at an average of 58.50.

Tamim Iqbal’s record as captain?

The veteran has led his side to 6 out of 7 ODI series wins since he started his journey as a permanent captain of team Bangladesh.

Iqbal started his career way back in 2007, and in no time he became the significant part of team Bangladesh in all formats and since then perfectly handling the responsibility of open the innings for Bangladesh.

In the longest format of the game, he is just behind another Bangladesh great Mushfiqur Rahim.

Iqbal took just 23 innings to score his last 1000 runs, including two centuries. Remarkably, out of the 9 openers who have reached 8,000-run mark, 6 of them are left-handers, with skipper of Bangladesh Tamim being the latest one in the list.

Tamim and Litton Das put 119 runs together for the first wicket in Bangladesh’s first ODI match against Zimbabwe to give their side a strong start. Star all-rounder of Zimbabwe trapped him when he was on 62.

Even after setting 304 runs target in 50-over, Bangladesh bowlers failed to restrict the Zimbabwe batters as Bangladesh lost the first game of the series by 5 wickets.
