T20I World Cup- NZ Leaves Major Names From Their 15-man squad

New Zealand became the first team to announce their squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The Kiwis announced their 15-man squad on Tuesday for the competition which is scheduled to be played from October 17 in UAE. Interestingly, the Kiwis have left out some major players from the squad. New Zealand veteran Ross Taylor is one such exclusion. All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme is also not included in the list announced by the Black Caps on 9th August. New Zealand Squad For ICC T20I World Cup

37-year-old Ross Taylor, who played a major part in NZ’s WTC glory, has not featured for the Kiwis in the T20I format since 2020. He last played in T20I against West Indies at home. New Zealand have added three frontline spinners in their squad- Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner, and Todd Astle.

Their 15-man squad also consists of four pacers- Kyle Jamieson, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee. All-rounder Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham have also made the cut. Pacer Adam Milne has been included in the team as an injury option and will travel with the squad to UAE.

New Zealand Have a Packed Schedule

New Zealand are expected to announce their squad for their Indian tour next month. NZC chief executive David White, in a recent interview, stated: “They need to safeguard the well-being of our players and support staff is now very real, and we’ve endeavored to do this by carefully managing their workloads over this winter’s massive playing program. “I’m satisfied we’ve selected strong squads for all our touring commitments this winter. As the Black Caps proved in England earlier this year, we have good depth in the New Zealand game and I’m confident all the squads chosen will acquit themselves well.”

In the upcoming five-match T20I series against Pakistan, few members of the World Cup squad – Todd Astle, Mark Chapman, Martin Guptill, Ish Sodhi, and Matt Henry – are expected to join the Kiwis. New Zealand will play their first T20I against Pakistan on September 25th, 2021.
