BCCI Reports “1 Selector Shortage” While Picking Indian Teams For The T20 World Cup & The Asia Cup 2022

T20 WC India Squad: The BCCI’s methods are peculiar. In the past five months, the most wealthy and self-described “most professional cricket board” in the world has not had time to appoint a fifth selector to the national senior selection committee. Yes, you read it correctly. Since Abey Kuruvilla left his position in February 2022, BCCI has been choosing the National Cricket Teams with one selector less.

Kuruvilla left his position in February after serving on the board’s cricket committees for a total of five years. Since that time, only 4 selectors have been used by BCCI to choose teams.

Without a fifth selector present, teams have been chosen by Chetan Sharma, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Debashish Mohanty. Teams for the Sri Lanka series, the tours of Ireland and England, and the impending trip to the West Indies have all been chosen by the selection committee with 1 selector short.

A surprising response was given by a BCCI source when questioned.

“The past five months have been quite hectic. The board has been busy with IPL 2022, the Media Rights Tender, and other competitions and issues. We would make sure that the fifth selector is selected before the teams for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup are chosen, the BCCI official joked.

Kuruvilla, a former fast bowler for India, is already employed there as the general manager of game development. No member of any cricket committee may serve for longer than five years, according to the BCCI’s new constitution.

Who gets to choose the fifth selector?

Sadly, the committee that must choose the fifth selector is one guy short from the previous year. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which must include three members in accordance with the new constitution, is in charge of choosing the selectors.

However, Madan Lal, the chairman of CAC, retired in October of last year after reaching the age of 70. The BCCI has not yet named a substitute for the 1983 World Cup champion. Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh, two members of the CAC, chose Rahul Dravid to be the head coach of India.

Squad submissions to the ICC must be made by a specific date. All boards have been instructed by the ICC to submit their 15-member team by September 15th, according to information currently accessible with InsideSport. This leaves just a little window of time for the Indian T20 World Cup team finalization for head coach Rahul Dravid and the Chetan
Sharma-led selection committee.
