Suresh Raina’s Team Releases Official Statement Regarding The Player’s Arrest Earlier This Month

World Cup-winning former India cricketer Suresh Raina was among the 34 people who were arrested, booked, and later released on bail for attending a party at a Mumbai club earlier this month. The said accused were taken under custody by the Mumbai police for breaking the COVID-19 norms.

Suresh Raina’s team releases official statement

The management team of Suresh Raina has issued an official release regarding the arrest for breaching the Covid-19 protocols.

‘Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings and protocols,’ the statement said.

‘Once pointed out, he immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident. He always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well.’ the statement added.

Bollywood Stars Also Spotted With Suresh Raina In Local Mumbai Club Near Airport

Raina, along with the likes of singer Guru Randhawa and Bollywood celebrity, Suzanne Khan, the ex-wife of superstar Hrithik Roshan, were guilty of not following the Covid norms. The raid took place around 3 AM at Dragonfly club near the Mumbai airport. Nineteen of the arrested dignities were either from Delhi or Punjab. They were later released on bail the same night.

The Mumbai Police, in its assertion stated: “Offence has been registered u/s 188, 269, 34 IPC and u/s 51 NDMA towards 34 individuals at Sahar police station after raid was carried out at 2.50 AM at Dragonfly pub, for preserving institution open past permissible time restrict, not following Covid norms akin to social distancing, not carrying face masks.”

They were booked under Section 188, 269, 34 of the IPC and provisions of the National Disaster Management Act for keeping the establishment open beyond permissible time limits and not following COVID norms. 

Suresh Raina was last in news for not playing IPL 2020 season because of some family issues and it was later revealed that Raina endured a personal tragedy. A murderous gang of robbers was responsible in the killing of Raina’s relatives in village Thariyal which is in district Pathankot. The southpaw was definitely missed by Chennai Super Kings who did not make it to the qualifiers for the first time in their IPL history. Nevertheless, Raina is all-set to make a comeback in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
