The Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was not happy with India’s team selection for the first Test on Thursday
“The selection astonished me. A man with that kind of record, especially against West Indies. He doesn’t find a place in this playing XI. That is stunning. Astonishing.” – Gavaskar said.
Ravichandran Ashwin has a crazy record against West Indies, he has played 11 matches and has picked 60 wickets at an average of 21.85 and with a strike rate of 46.2. Another interesting fact about Ashwin is that he has four centuries on his name and all the four centuries came against the West Indies.
And the last series he played in West Indies was in the year 2016, in that series he has taken 17 wickets and for his brilliant performance in the series he has been awarded as the “Man of the Series”.
However, India decided to go with three pace options – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. And Ravindra Jadeja playing as the only spin option for the team.
Rohit Sharma with Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari were given the middle order duties. And the Skipper Virat Kohli has been a star performer in this campaign so far.
