Afghanistan fans celebrate Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup win

Following Sri Lanka’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday, people in Afghanistan were delighted and flooded the streets. Here in this article, we have discussed on Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup win celebration by the Afghanistan people.

This comes amid reports of confrontations between Pakistan and Afghanistan supporters on Wednesday in Sharjah, following Pakistan’s victory in the Super Four cricket match of the Asia Cup 2022.

Afghanistan too performed admirably at the Asia Cup 2022. After defeating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Group Stage, they advanced to the Super Four stage of the competition. However, they were unable to win any matches in the Super Four stage, losing to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India.

During the night of the finals, Sri Lanka bowled Pakistan out for 147 in 20 overs, with hauls of four and three wickets respectively from Pramod Madushan and Wanindu Hasaranga. Chamika Karunaratne also took two wickets in the process.

Earlier, it was Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s unbeaten knock of 71 runs off 45 balls guided the hosts post 170 for six in 20 overs. His partnership of 58 with Hasaranga at the time when Sri Lanka were struggling at 58 for was the real game-changer. Hasaranga not just did his part with the bat as well as he smashed a majestic 36 off 21, and later won the player of the tournament for his magnificent all-round performance throughout the tournament.

After the victory, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka said, “We played last year’s qualifiers as well … it’s the set-up that has come through from three or four years back. The last two years were really good for us … and winning Asia Cup will really help for the … World Cup. The World Cup qualifiers will help as well because we will play in those conditions before the main tournament happens so it’ll be really good for us.”

Player of the match Bhanuka Rajapaksa, said, “We all just wanted to show the whole world, a couple of decade’s back that we had some sort of aggression in our side. And we wanted to create those moments again. I think, as a unit, we are doing that fantastically well at the moment.

We want to look forward to the World Cup as well and to keep up this momentum,” he added.
