The all India selection Committee has announced Mohammad Siraj as the replacement of injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of games against the ongoing series against South Africa. Let us look at Who Will Replace Jasprit Bumrah for the remaining T20Is against South Africa in detail.
“Bumrah has sustained a back injury. And is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.” said BCCI in an official press release.
And as per media reports, Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the upcoming T20 World Cup as well.
“In what could be a huge blow to India’s hopes. of performing well at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. Premier pacemen Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the tournament with a back stress fracture.” news agency PTI had reported citing BCCI sources on Thursday.
Ahead of the 1st T2o against South Africa on Wednesday BCCI informed that “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain in during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him, ” BCCI had tweeted.
Bumrah missed Asia Cup 2022
Earlier, Bumrah missed the whole Asia Cup 2022 due to an injury. He later called up for the three-match T20I home series against Australia. He missed the first match of the series but played the final two.
It will be a huge blow for India if Bumrah will not be part of the marquee event next month. As in the Asia Cup 2022 India faced debacle due to death bowling.
The men in blue after qualifying for the Super four stage in the continental event. Lost the first two matches in the Super four Pakistan and Sri Lanka and knocked out of the tournament.
The major reason behind India’s end-run in the competition was death-bowling. As the bowlers didn’t managed to restrict the opponents during the final overs of the game and lost the important matches.
However, Bhuvneshwar was part of team India. But his form is also a sign of worry for the skipper.
Apart from Bhuvneshwar, Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel are the other two options for India in T20 World Cup. Both are currently in India’s squad. While Mohammad Shami is on standby list.
And Shami will most likely to replace Bumrah in the World Cup squad. And Siraj might get a chance in standby list.
Talking about the South Africa series, India won the first match of the series on Wednesday. By defeating the visitors by 8 wickets in Thiruvananthapuram.
The second match of the series will take place at Guwahati on October 2.
