Sri Lanka’s form:
Sri Lanka had helped themselves to a much-needed win in the final ODI against India. Their spinners restricted the high-flying Indian batsmen to a sub-par total. Although they made a mess of the total in the end, they won nevertheless. They looked quite eager to carry that momentum heading into the T20I series. Their bowlers did well to restrict the Indian team to a sub-par total. They cleverly operated with pace change troubling the batsmen constantly.
Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers. But it was their batting effort that left much to be desired. Barring Charith Asalanka and Avishka Fernando to a certain extent, their batting was a no-show. Sri Lanka will like their batsmen to come good and put on a better show.
India’s form:
India were visibly hurt with the defeat in the 3rd ODI. They went back to the drawing board and assembled their best XI on the park for the 1st T20I. India lost a wicket on the very first ball but recovered well to post 51 runs in the powerplay. Sanju Samson and Shikhar Dhawan played supporting acts to Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant half-century.
But India were not able to hit the top gear in final overs and ended up being 15-20 runs short. Their bowlers bowled splendidly as a group and notched up a fine win. India will be concerned about Hardik Pandya’s batting form. He is due for a high score. India will be looking to field the same team from the first T20I.
