In December 2021, Shakib last competed for Bangladesh in the longest format versus Pakistan. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand because of certain obligations. Shakib participated in the One-Day Internationals during the South Africa tour; however, he was forced to withdraw from the tour prior to the Tests due to a family member’s illness.

Bangladesh would be expecting that Shakib helps make it to the XI, which also will add a great deal of experience with both the bat and ball and Shoriful Islam will be present, assuming his fitness.

The first of the 2 Test matches that will be played involving Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The 2nd Test match will take place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
