SA Women Cricket Team To Start Training From July 27

Strict Protocols To COVID 19 Prevention Would Be Followed During Training:

The 24-member South Africa Women’s Team will begin a week-long training camp in a bio-secure setting on July 27, ahead of their planned tour of England in September, Cricket South Africa announced on Thursday (July 23).

The camp, which will be held at the Powerade High Performance Center, will also include pre-season medical tests. Upon completion of the one-week preparation, the players must return to their respective provinces for individual training from 3 to 14 August.

Following that, they will be reunited for a two-week camp from August 16 to 27. Strict procedures will be followed during the session, including social distance steps, in compliance with the guidance given by the COVID-19 Steering Committee of the CSA. The players and coaches who practice and stay on-site for the entire duration of the camp are undergoing COVID-19 assessments this week and will be checked again before the second camp begins.

“We were very encouraged by the success of the health protocols in the lead-up to the 3TC Solidarity Cup and the actual match day. Safety remains our top priority at all times for players, support staff and all other stakeholders,” said Graeme Smith, CSA Director of Cricket.

“The planned tour of England will focus heavily on the 50-over format as we begin preparing for the ICC Women’s World Cup, which is still scheduled to take place in New Zealand early next year. We have been through a frustrating period with our Momentum Proteas not able to build on the excellent form they showed at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and next week’s camp represents an important new starting point,” Smith added.
