Gautam Gambhir Promoted to ‘Global Mentor’ by Lucknow Supergiant’s RPSG Group

Gautam Gambhir Global Mentor

The Sanjiv Goenka-led RPSG Group has promoted former India batter Gautam Gambhir. He is now a “global mentor” after guiding Lucknow Super Giants. He led the team to top four to finish in the IPL in their first outing. Gambhir will thus mentor the Durban Super Giants franchise in the new SA20 league in addition to his work with the Lucknow franchise, a side that the RPSG Group bought in July 2022. Here we talk about RPSG Group Named Gautam Gambhir Global Mentor in detail.

Gambhir, a two-time IPL champion captain, was in the dugout for each of Super Giants’ IPL games and was an important contributor to the Lucknow franchise’s thinking during the auction. He routinely addressed the players in post-game dressing room debriefs and was there on the field during strategic timeouts.

Statement Exchange

“He is one of the sharpest cricketing minds going around,” a statement from the RPSG Group read. “The group feels he can not only add value in Indian conditions but across the cricketing map as well.”

“In my ideology of a team sport, designations don’t play much role,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in the statement. “At best, they are there to facilitate a process to make a team win. As a global mentor of Super Giants I look forward to some added responsibility.

“My intensity and passion to win have just got international wings. It will be a proud moment to see the Super Giants family leave a global imprint. I thank Super Giants family for showing that faith in me. Guess it’s time for some more sleepless nights.”

What is next?

Lance Klusener, the head coach of the Durban team, and Gambhir will now collaborate closely. In order to “pursue professional engagements around the globe,” Klusener resigned from his position as Zimbabwe’s men’s team’s batting coach on Friday.

The inaugural SA20 competition, which would feature teams from Durban, Johannesburg, Paarl, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Gqeberha, will begin on January 10 of the next year and last 33 matches. IPL team owners have purchased all six franchises.

Six teams in the league are Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who play for Gqeberha. They are all owned by organisations that also have IPL franchises.

Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, and Kyle Mayers are among the other players from the Lucknow team who have also played for the Durban franchise. These three were among five players the franchise signed prior to the SA20 auction. Other players included at the auction. They were Reece Topley, Dwaine Pretorius, Kyle Abbott, Dilshan Madushanka, and Wiaan Mulder.
