Rohit Wants India To Win At Least Two Out Of The Next Three World Cups

Indian white-ball cricket vice-captain Rohit Sharma has said that India must win at least two out of the next three world cups.

Rohit who spoke to veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh in a live chat on the internet said, “My personal aim is that we as a team should be able to win at least two World Cups out of three coming up.”

He was referring to the T20 world cups in 2020 and 2021 and the ODI world cup in 2023. India has not won an ICC event after the 2013 champions trophy under Dhoni’s captaincy.

He also spoke about the last year’s world cup semi-final match against New Zealand where India lost.

Losing Wickets Early Led To Our Defeat In World Cup

He regrets India losing early wickets within half-an-hour after the start or otherwise he feels that India would have won the match.

“Probably, if we did not lose wickets in that opening half-hour (against New Zealand), we could have won the game. Those 10 overs were really important,” he said.

He also responded to Indian middle-order batting woes saying backing the young players who play in that position is important.

” Ganguly Backed You And Yuvraj And You Delivered “

“We keep talking about backing players in the team so that they can cement their places. There is a lot of pressure on captain and coach to pick the players and back them,” he said.

He mentioned how former captain Sourav Ganguly backed Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh and they delivered later and why he stresses supporting young players is important.

The opener also said the team management is with the intention that young players should be given more chances to prove themselves.

“It is important to give them enough chances. We have heard about how Dada (Sourav Ganguly) backed you (Harbhajan) and Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh). How they backed you and then you delivered. The same way we should do it, the process is on. Whoever is being backed at the moment will get adequate chances,” he said.
