Rohit Sharma Praises On Ashwin As ‘An All-time Great’

Ashwin Is An All-Time Great – Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, who became successful in his first assignment in the longest format of the game as a captain, lauded the star spinner, saying him as an “all-time great” and also said that he was pleased to see his capability to implement with time. Behind surpassing legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev’s 434 Test wickets to become India’s 2nd-highest Test wicket-taker following Anil Kumble (619).

Ashwin now ranks 9th in the world with 436 Test wickets. His next rival currently is former South African bowler Dale Steyn, who has 439 wickets. Interestingly, Ashwin (85 Tests) which is 46 Tests less in count than Kapil Dev’s (131 Tests) to surpass his 430 wickets.

“It’s a big thing in his cricketing career to achieve that feat you know,” Sharma said when asked about Ashwin’s feat in just 85 Tests”.

“When you grow up wanting to play Test cricket, you don’t dream about these things and so to surpass that is a big achievement on his behalf. You know, I have been watching Ashwin for a long time now and every time I watch him, he seems to get better and better,” he said, adding, “Ravichandran Ashwin is one such player who always has confidence is in his ability in what he wants to achieve and for the team as well.”

“He is an all-time great in my eyes. He is playing for so many years and performed for the country. So many match-winning performances, so for me he is an all-time great. People might have a different point of views but from where I see, he is an all-time great for me,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile, Ashwin has bagged 306 of his scalps in India (50 tests) & 349 in the  (57 tests). Throughout 24 Tests in SENA nations, the off-spinner has only grabbed 70 wickets. He has also been left on the bench during a few Test series in such nations on several instances.

In response to Ashwin’s absence from those matches, Sharma stated, “Really, I can’t tell you anything about his overseas spot and why he can’t find it and why he isn’t in the eleven.”

“Obviously, I have no idea as I wasn’t part of the selection at that point and I can’t tell you what happened and why was he left out and why didn’t he play and those kind of stuff,” he added.
