Rohit Sharma Overtakes Ricky Ponting, Kane Williamson, and Viv Richards

The quick-fire unbeaten 76 by India’s skipper Rohit Sharma helped India defeat England in the first One Day International at The Oval on Tuesday by chasing down their 111-run mark in 18.2 overs. In the process, Rohit Sharma has surpassed Ricky Ponting, Kane Williamson, & Viv Richards to take the title of visiting hitter with the most ODI runs in England. With seven hundred and just as many half-centuries, Rohit currently has 1411 runs in ODIs in England. With 1393 runs, New Zealand captain Williamson is second on the list.

During the game at the Kennington Oval, Rohit Sharma also made ODI history by becoming the first Indian to hit 250 sixes.

He and Dhawan added 114 runs to their unbroken partnership to surpass the 5000-run threshold in ODI opening partnerships. As an opening duo, Rohit and Dhawan have so far stitched together 5108 runs, and as the series goes on, they want to add to that total.

The two openers are now 42 runs behind the West Indies duo of Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge for the fourth-most productive opening partnership in the format.

In the game, Rohit Sharma chose to field after winning the toss.

England was bowled out for 110 thanks to the outstanding opening performance from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Shami returned with three wickets while Bumrah claimed six. As the Indian pacers ran England ragged, Prasidh Krishna also contributed with one wicket.

Despite the fact that they were playing in difficult circumstances, Rohit and Dhawan made the chase appear easy, as India won by a margin of 10 wickets to take a 1-0 series lead.

In terms of Test rankings, Mitchell Starc is currently rated 10th after displacing Josh Hazlewood in the bowlers’ category of the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Additionally, Dinesh Chandimal has climbed 19 ranks to rank 29th overall following his outstanding double century in the second Test against Australia in Galle, moving Dimuth Karunaratne up to the seventh slot in the rankings.
