Renegades Seals Semifinal Spot in WBBL 2019

Skipper Jessica Duffin grabbed her third successive half-century, and it was followed by a three-wicket haul of Molly Strano as Melbourne Renegades registered a 29-run victory against Sydney Thunder to seal a spot in the semifinal.

Presently, Renegades are third on the points table tied with Perth Scorchers who are placed fourth and have a game in hand.

Asked to bat first, the Renegades were in early trouble as they lost Anna Lanning and Chamari Athapaththu, with both batters falling to Samantha Bates in the third over. Duffin then steadied the innings and was supported well by Danielle Wyatt (44) and Courtney Webb (24) as the Renegades finished at 151 for 6.

The Sydney Thunder got off to a decent start in the chase, with the openers adding 25 before Strano bagged the wicket of Rachel Priest while Alex Blackwell was run out. Naomi Stalenberg and Rachael Haynes’s bid to resurrect the chase was ended by Strano, after which the Thunder lost wickets at regular intervals and ended up with 122 for 7.
