Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan was appointed as the captain of Team India for the ODI series against West Indies. While Ravindra Jadeja was selected as the vice-captain of the side for the same. However, due to injury Jadeja was unable to take part in the series. Shreyas Iyer then named vice-captain in his absence.
India won the ODI series against West Indies by 3-0. While Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan recorded 168 runs in 3 games at an average of 56, including two half-centuries.
He again, in the absence of both regular captain and vice-captain, selected as skipper of the side for the Zimbabwe tour in September. Right before the series KL Rahul regain fitness and took charge.

Ravindra Jadeja injury update

He was part of the first two games against Pakistan and Hong Kong. But soon he ruled from the tournament due to a knee injury.

Jadeja underwent knee surgery early this month. He is currently undergoing rehab at NCA in Bengaluru.
Both Dhawan and Jadeja are not part of the India’s ongoing T20I series against Australia squad. And also of the ICC T20 World Cup side.
Shikhar, however will likely to handling the captaincy responsibility of the side for the ODI series against South Africa next month. When the full strength Indian side will travel to Australia for the T20 World Cup event.
