Rahul Dravid Will Coach Team India For Sri Lanka Tour In July

The BCCI, last week, announced a 24-member squad to tour England, instead of a reported 30-member contingent. The rest of the players will travel to Sri Lanka, at the same time, for their limited-over series. Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead Team India’s B team in Sri Lanka in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It would also mean that head coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun alongside batting coach Vikram Rathour would not be available in Sri Lanka either. Rahul Dravid to be assigned as India’s coach

Rahul Dravid, who stopped travelling with the India A and U-19 teams after taking over as NCA head in Bengaluru, is set to be the head coach of the Indian white-ball squad that will tour Sri Lanka in July.  In absence of main players and coaches, a BCCI source told PTI, “He will travel with the team to Sri Lanka in all likelihood”.

India will be flying to Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI sequence adopted by 5 T20Is and former Indian stalwart Rahul Dravid could in all possibility become the coach of the team.

“The Team India coaching staff will be in the UK and it is best that the young team is guided by Dravid as he has already worked with almost all of India ‘A’ boys. The comfort the youngsters share with him will be an added advantage,” news agency ANI quoted a BCCI official as saying.

The report also suggests that other members of the NCA – including Paras Mhambrey – would also accompany Dravid, with the former India pacer serving as the bowling coach. Like Dravid, Mhambrey has also been in charge of the India A and Under 19 teams as their bowling coach.

the tour starts with the ODIs first which will be played on July 13, 16 and 19, followed by the T20Is on July 22, 24 and 27. There is confirmed the news that all the matches will be played in Colombo at the R Premadasa Stadium. “We plan to host the entire series at one venue,” said chairman Arjuna de Silva

The squad will have plenty of fringe players and some established white-ball specialists. Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer are in the running for captaincy.
