Rahul Dravid Is All Set to Become Indian Team Head Coach

Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid is all set to take over the head coach responsibilities after Ravi Shastri. Dravid was appointed as the head coach for the 2nd string Indian team which played against Sri Lanka and they have successfully won that series.

Rahul Dravid has been one silent asset who will be working tirelessly in the backend to build a solid group of players for the Indian team. Initially, when Dravid was asked about will he take up the Head Coach responsibilities, he has answered – ” Absolutely No”. But finally, Dravid has changed his mind and he is all set to become head coach of the Indian cricket team.

BCCI had a meeting with Dravid and they spoke regarding the formalities, contract details interview process, and much more.

One of the BCCI officials has stated that – “We will be bringing out the advertisements for the head coach very soon. I think we have been able to convince Rahul that he should now move forward to work actively with the Indian national team,”

Rahul Dravid has been the 1st choice head coach for many years before Kumble got the contract in 2016 and Shastri in 2017. Dravid was constantly working on India A and Under-19 teams at NCA, Bangalore.

Dravid was involved in the talks with BCCI since July from the time he went to Sri Lanka as the coach for a White ball series. At that particular time frame, Dravid hadn’t given a straight ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to becoming a full-time coach. “There are a lot of challenges doing full-time roles, so I really don’t know,” Dravid had said in a post-series conference from Sri Lanka. “I am enjoying what I am doing.”

BCCI had few other overseas options too – They have considered Mahela Jayawardene and Ricky Ponting, but the board couldn’t find a suitable candidate and they have turned to Dravid again.

There are some big events that are lineup for the next two years in International cricket, they are – the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, the 2023 ODI World Cup at home, and the 2023 World Test Championship final.
