R Ashwin Might Be The Biggest Key For India: Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn, one of South Africa’s best speedsters, has expressed his thoughts on India’s star off-spinner Ravi Ashwin. In the forthcoming five-match Test series against England, Steyn believes Ashwin would be India’s most important player. India will face England in a five-match Test series that will begin on August 4 and will kick off the World Test Championship’s 2021-23 cycle. Dale Steyn about R Ashwin

Steyn remarked that the side must think deeply and not depend completely on the seamers’ abilities. He also stressed the significance of spinners, particularly facing teams like England and Australia, which have a history of suffering against the strong sides. Steyn went on to say that while it may be odd for him to believe so, Ashwin has the potential to be India’s biggest secret weapon in the future.

Ashwin might be the biggest trump card that India has going forward: Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn about R Ashwin. “Maybe it’s out-of-the-box thinking here from me, but I think we’re putting a lot of emphasis on the seamers when someone like R Ashwin might be the biggest key for India. As these five Test matches go on, I think spin will be the difference,” said Steyn in an Interaction.

“Ashwin is the kind of bowler who bowls tons and tons of overs. Teams like England and Australia, who are so good at playing seamers and seamer-friendly conditions, don’t tend to play spin particularly well. So Ashwin might be the biggest trump card that India has going forward,” added Steyn.

Ravi Ashwin, on the other hand, seems to have been India’s favourite bowler in whites for a long period of time. He was last seen in the World Test Championship final, which India ended up losing to New Zealand. Although the circumstances in the WTC final favoured the seamers, Ashwin didn’t appear to be at any risk of leading India to victory.

In terms of statistics, the excellent spinner has 413 wickets to his record and is the second-best bowler in the ICC Test rankings. It’ll be fascinating to see whether Ashwin can repeat his performance against England the following month.
