WBBL 2022: Perth Scorchers climb to third place with 104-run win over Melbourne Renegades

PS-W Vs MR-W match highlights: Perth Scorchers registered their sixth win in the tournament by defeating Melbourne Renegades by 104 runs to claim the second spot after the 39th match of the Women’s Big Bash League.

After a stunning batting display by their batters, Perth bowlers then did the job done for the side as they restricted the Melbourne side to just 88 to hand their team a comprehensive win to climb from fifth to third place at the points table.

Earlier Beth Mooney and Marizanne Kapp starred with the bat for Perth and helped their side post a massive score of 192 on board in 20 overs.

Invited to bat, Perth started the game on a decent note as their openers added 47 in 7.1 for the first wicket.

They, however, lost their next two wickets early. But, Mooney and Kapp didn’t let the shock felt as they added 123 for the fourth wicket.

Both did a superb partnership in just 62 balls and guided their side to a huge total of 192 in 20 overs.

Mooney, however, got out on the last ball of the innings. Kapp remained not in the process. The wicketkeeper batter Mooney scored 90 runs off 58 with the help of 11 fours and 2 sixes.

While Kapp played a knock of 68 in just 34. Her knock included 8 fours and 4 maximums.

The star-studded Melbourne Renegades side once again failed to perform under pressure and lost the game by big margin.

Their openers, middle-order, every department failed to perform in the game and as a result they a defeat by 104 runs.

Erica Kershaw scored the highest run for the side with 35, while Carly Leeson 16, and Josphine Dooley 14.

Apart from them, no other batter even managed to touch the double digit mark as a result they bowed out for just 88.

Piepa Cleary bagged 2 wickets in the process while giving just 6 runs in 2 overs. Alana King also grabbed 2 wickets in her 4 overs while leaking 18 runs.

While Lilly Mills, Marizanne Kapp, Taneale Peschel and Amy Louise Edgar took 1-1 each.

The wicketkeeper batter Beth Mooney was awarded with the player of the match title for her impactful 90-run knock while batting at the top of the order that set the tone for her side.

With this win, Perth Scorchers now moved up to third place from fifth with 13 points. While Melbourne Renegades still sitting at seventh spot with 5 points after 11 games.
