Players With 2 Cr Base Price Who May Go Unsold

The IPL Mega auctions are just a week away from now. Franchises are busy narrowing down on the names they want in their squad. More than 500 players have been chosen in the final auction. These players will go under the hammer on February 12-13. Players have listed themselves in different pay brackets. Here is all about Players With 2 Crores Base Price Who May Go Unsold.

Players With 2 Crores Base Price Who May Go Unsold

There are a total of 49 players who have registered themselves in the highest slab of INR 2 crores category. Out of which there are certainly few attractions that are sure to break the bank. But there are a few names who might completely miss the bus owing to their base price.

We look at 5 such players who may go unsold after having pegged their base price at INR 2 crores:

#5 Odean Smith

Odean Smith considers himself to be a like-to-like replacement for Andre Russell. He is someone who believes can hit the ball big and strike decisive blows with the ball. Smith is relatively new to international cricket. He made his debut in 2018.

His career has evolved from being a rookie in the last couple of seasons. He picked 18 wickets in 11 games in CPL 2021. But he is yet to put up a striking performance for the Windies. A performance that can put him in the big league. Hence his name featuring in the INR 2 crore bracket comes as a surprise. He will find it difficult to attract any takers.

#4 Marchant de Lange

Marchant de Lange first appeared in the international circuit bustling with pace. He was known to send thunderbolts at 90mph. But few seasons down the line, Lange is no longer the force he used to be once. It would have been difficult for him to grab an IPL contract at INR 1 crore base price. Hence the question of him fetching a contract at INR 2 crores is as good as anyone’s guess.

#3 Craig Overton

Craig Overton is a bright talent. He has proven himself in the domestic circuit with the red-ball. But his white-ball game is still a work in progress. Overton has played a total of 63 T20 games. He has picked 58 wickets at an economy of almost 9. Overton’s batting is nothing much to write about. He has a dismal strike rate (119.70) and average (16.10). In a list that features names like Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada, it is hard to imagine him getting picked.

#2 Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar remains one of the most effective T20 players in the Australian cricketing circles. He narrowly missed out from the playing XI in Australia’s T20 2021 World Cup-winning campaign. But Agar’s biggest shortcoming is the fact that he isn’t a popular figure as compared to the rest of his peers. He has never had a spectacular run of form with either bat or ball. So despite all his utility, Agar may still not find a buyer owing to his base price.

#1 Imran Tahir

Imran Tahir is one of the giants of the game. He has played over 300 T20 games picking wickets across the globe. Tahir is a proven IPL performer too. His sensational form was there for everyone to see in IPL 2019.

But age seems to have caught up with him. It might not show in his performance but teams seem to be wary about this fact. As franchises set out to build squads for the coming decade. It is difficult to see a team bidding for a veteran like Tahir who has pegged his base price at a whopping INR 2 crores.
