Harmanpreet Kaur ruled out of WBBL: India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was ruled out of the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League on Wednesday owing to a back injury.
James Rosengarten, the general manager of the Renegades, expressed disappointment at losing the international star while naming Eve Jones of England as her replacement.
Due to international commitments, Harmanpreet, the last edition’s WBBL player of the tournament, missed her team’s first two games.
“Harmanpreet was fantastic for us last season and we were looking forward to having her as part of our squad again this year. But unfortunately, she has been ruled out through injury,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten said in a statement.
“Eve will stay on with our squad for at least the next couple of matches. As we work through the best strategy for our squad for the remainder of the tournament.” Harmanpreet won the player of the tournament award last season after scoring 406 runs at a strike rate of 130.96. With the ball, she scalped 15 wickets from 13 games.
First Indian to be signed by Overseas T20 franchise
The current skipper of Team India became the first player from India to be signed by an International T20 franchise in 2016.
She was a part of team Sydney Thunder for the 2016/17 and 2018/19. Kaur then signed by Melbourne Renegades in 2021.
The last season was nothing sort of a dream for the all-rounder. She was just flawless with both bat and ball and her all-rounder performance earned her player of the tournament award.
Kaur scored 406 runs in 13 matches at a mind-boggling average of 58.00 and a strike rate of nearly 131. She didn’t stopped there, as she took 15 wickets with the ball too in those 13 games. With her all-round performance she brought home the player of the tournament title.
Kaur has so far been featured in 48 WBBL games, in which she scored 1,199 runs at an impressive average of 41.44. She hit six fifties in the process. While in bowling she has picked 27 wickets so far.
India won Asia Cup 2022 under Harmanpreet Kaur
She missed the opening two games for her side in this season, as she was busy with national duty. Under her leadership India won the Asia Cup 2022 in a comprehensive way on Sunday.
Kaur’s team Renegades have won 1 game and lost 1 so far in their 2022 WBBL campaign. They are currently standing on fifth position at the points table.
Indian player Jemimah Rodrigues, however, is set to join her side (Melbourne Stars).
Rodrigues will join the Melbourne Stars after her Asia Cup commitments with India are completed. This will be a significant boost for the team Melbourne Stars, who are currently in seventh position.
Rodrigues starred with the bat in the Asia Cup, as she finished the tournament as the highest-run scorer. She has smashed 217 runs in 8 matches at an average of 54.25, which is a good sign for her WBBL team.
