He will be eligible to take part in the Pakistan domestic cricket season 2021-22 after the completion of his rehabilitation program which is expected to be done by the next month.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Disciplinary Panel has restricted Umar Akmal from all forms of cricket for 3 years due to allegations of corruption. For breaking the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code, the Court of Arbitration for Sport shortened his ban to 12 months and penalized him 4.25 million Pakistani rupees.

I learned a lot during this time and due to that mistake: Umar Akmal

Prior to the commencement of the 5th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Akmal was suspended for failing to disclose a corrupt approach. He also apologized for his mistake and admitted that he would never commit such kinds of acts that will affect his cricketing career.

“17 months ago, I made a mistake which caused damage to my cricket and career. I learned a lot during this time and due to that mistake, Pakistan cricket’s reputation suffered badly. I ask for forgiveness from the PCB and from cricket fans around the world,” said Umar in a video released by the PCB.

Umar Akmal has played for Pakistan in 16 Tests, 121 One-Day Internationals, and 84 Twenty-20 Internationals. His cricketing career, therefore, was put on hold as a result of the suspension. He apologized for his actions over not being likely to participate in cricket and urged the necessity of disclosing these incidents to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible.

”I couldn’t play cricket despite being a cricketer. I, Umar Akmal, would like to request all of you, as ambassadors of the sport, to stay away from any suspicious activities. If any suspicious individuals approach you, please report it to the anti-corruption unit in a timely manner so that your record and career remain clean,” Akmal had asserted.
