18 years ago, on this day (17-08-2002), the then 19-years Indian Women’s team captain young Mithali Raj made history in women’s cricket by scoring 214 runs at Taunton against team England in the final Test match. Apart from this milestone, being the first Indian woman to make a double century in Test cricket, it was also the highest score in Test in women’s cricket. now the record is held by Kiran Baluch of Pakistan who made 242 runs against West Indies. At the age of 16, Mithali Raj debuted and scored unbeaten 114 runs in 1999 against Ireland. It was her third Test match when she built the record.
