Opting to bat, New Zealand batters felt trapped in impressive Botha’s superb display of spin bowling as he removed 4 of the Legends team 5 batters when the team’s score were only 35.

Ross Taylor’s choice to win the toss and choose to bat in their opening match of the season backfired since it resulted in a dismal performance with the bat from a well-rounded New Zealand team.

In 20 overs, New Zealand was reduced to 99 for 8, with Brownlie leading the way with 48 runs. Apart from Brownlie, the only other batter to reach double digits (18) was wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins.

New Zealanders top-stars were unable to show their magic with the bat as Ross Taylor walked back to pavillion after scoring only four runs,  Jacob Oram gone for 6, and Craig McMillan for 7.

In response, South Africa Legends rode on a 36-ball 51 from Andrew Puttick to chase down 100 in just 13.3 overs and register their first win of the tournament.

In reply, South Africa Legends opener Andrew Puttick played a destructive knock of unbeaten 51 in just 36 to guide his side earn their first victory of the competition.

Alviro Petersen also remained not out on 29 as South Africa won the game by 9 wickets with 39 balls to spare.

After losing to Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends by 61 runs in the Road Safety Series opener, Jonty Rhodes-led South Africa Legends made a strong comeback and will to carry forward the winning momentum when they lock horns with Sri Lanka Legends in their third match of the tournament on September 17.
