Sharma, who is presently guiding the Indian team in the T20I series against New Zealand, took to Twitter to address AB’s influence on the game. Sharma went on to say that not everyone else has the same influence on the outcome as he did, and it was a delight to watch him from the opposing side. The hitman finished by greeting the 37-year-old and his family.

“Not many people have had the impact on the game like AB did. It was indeed a pleasure to watch him play from the other side. Happy retirement AB, best wishes to and your family @ABdeVilliers17,” tweeted Indian T20I skipper Rohit Sharma on AB de Villiers’ retirement.

It is well known that De Villiers had a phenomenal experience playing for IPL side RCB, and his friendship with captain Virat Kohli was obvious to everyone. Aside from their on-field accomplishments, they also enjoyed their wonderful bonding off the field. However, as soon as AB retired from cricket, Kohli rushed to social media to praise the greatest player of all time.

Very proud of what you’ve done: Virat On ABD

“To the best player of our times and the most inspirational person I’ve met, you can be very proud of what you’ve done and what you’ve given to RCB my brother. Our bond is beyond the game and will always be. This hurts my heart but I know you’ve made the best decision for yourself and your family as you’ve always done. I love you,” said Virat Kohli earlier on ABD.

The South African had already retired from international cricket in 2018, but he continued to play in various T20 competitions across the world.
