Women’s Big Bash League 2022: Melbourne Stars Beat Melbourne Renegades by 6 Wickets in Easy Chase

MS-W Vs MR-W Match Highlights

It was an easy affair for Melbourne Stars to chase down 92 to beat Melbourne Renegades in the 22nd Match of Women’s Big Bash League. Stars who also won the toss and elected to field first, won the match by 6 wickets with 14 balls remaining. let us look at MS-W Vs MR-W Match Highlights in detail.

Renegades‘ Flop Innings

Batting first, Renegades tumbled down on 91. There were a few double digit scores but not prominent ones. Opener Hayley Matthews scored the most runs 24 for the team. Her partner Sophie got out on a Golden duck on the second ball of the match. There were efforts from Chamari and Prestwidge but that couldn’t last long as they got out on 17 and 13, respectively. After Carly Leeson’s run a ball 15, none of the batters scored more than a 4. The team tumbled down on just 91.

Stars’ bowling was exceptional throughout the innings. They did not give Renegades any chance to make a comeback at any point in the match. Sophie Day and Annabel Sutherland took 4 and 3 wickets respectively. They were just too good for the opponents to face today. Apart from them, Garth and Moloney took 1 wicket each.

At no point in the innings, Stars bowlers not dominate the batters. They bowled at the right line and length and showed discipline. Renegades batters were too careless to take proper precautions against their home opponents. The momentum was with the Stars since the beginning.

Stars‘ Decent Chase

During the chase, Melbourne Stars did lose some early wickets but the score was too low to be worried about anything. Hill and Jemimah could only add 15 before the young Indian batter got out. Just after adding 2 more runs, we saw Hill following her to the pavilion. Capsey and Sutherland then formed a partnership of 47 runs to keep worries at bay for the country. Annabel after performing with the ball, scored 42 with bat to show dominant performance. A couple of wickets fell again but that did not stop Stars from winning the match by 6 wickets.

Melbourne Renegades bowlers were not able to pose any difficulties for the opponent batters. Only 3 bowlers took one wicket each. Sarah, Ismail and Matthews shared one wicket amongst each other.

The Player of the Match award was given to Annabel Sutherland for her beautiful spell of 4-1-17-3 and 42 runs knock with the bat.

Melbourne Renegades will next play Sydney Sixers tomorrow at Ballart. Renegades have an edge over Sixers having won 4 out of last 4 contests. After today’s match, they will hope to make a comeback and forget what’s in the past.
