Melbourne Stars will forever retire Shane Warne’s No. 23 Jersey

Melbourne Stars tribute to Shane Warne: At their opening BBL-12 match at the MCG this Friday, the Melbourne Stars will honour the contributions of the late Shane Warne. To help the BBL get off the ground, Warne came out of retirement and played 15 games for the Stars in BBL 01 and BBL 02. He played a significant role in the club’s early development and helped the Stars entice new players, supporters, and members.

As a mark of respect for the late, legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne’s previous Big Bash League team Melbourne Stars will forever retire his No. 23 shirt. Warne, who passed away in March of this year at the age of 52. Additionally, he guided them to the semifinals in the 2012–13 season.

Tribute to Shane Warne in BBL: List of Things Melbourne Stars Planned for:

  1. The world is still coming to terms with his tragic departure earlier this year, therefore there will be a standing ovation after the game’s 23rd ball in honour of the best bowler Australia has ever produced.
  2. Young spinner Clint Hinchliffe will have to choose a new number as a result of the Melbourne Stars’ decision to retire the number 23, which will be a significant expression of respect.
  3. For their first home game against the Hurricanes on Friday night. Every player is expected to wear the number 23 on their playing jersey.
  4. Warne’s second home, the MCG, now honours his remarkable legacy by hanging his playing shirt permanently in the locker rooms. The MCG also has a stand named in his honour and a statue of him out front.
  5. After the game, Warne’s family has been invited to the locker rooms. They will also take part in the matchday presentation.
  6. During the whole week, there will lot of social media posts giving tribute to Shane Warne.
