SIX! Tim Southee to Eoin Morgan. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. Finished in style, captain Morgan gets the job done for his side. England have taken a 1-0 lead in this five match T20I series against New Zealand thanks to a seven wicket victory in Christchurch. Their bowling set the game up, restricting the Black Caps to 5-153 with debutants Sam Curran and Pat Brown taking their maiden wickets. Ross Taylor and Daryl Mitchell added some late impetus, however James Vince was the star batsman of the day with a majestic 59 in the chase. He timed the ball better than anyone on a surface that turned out to be slightly slow, earning the player of the match award. He was visibly disappointed at his tame dismissal, the third of Mitchell Santner's victims in an impressive display from the left-arm spinner. It wasn't enough for the Kiwis though as the tourists cruised to the target with nine deliveries remaining. We'll be back for the Second T20I which is in Wellington on Sunday.

FOUR! Tim Southee to Eoin Morgan. Full toss, off stump on the front foot driving, past long off for 4 runs. Southee is so close to the perfect yorker and still the ball goes to the fence, not much he could've done better there. Santner put in a great effort but couldn't stop it getting past him.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Santner to James Vince. Stock ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Guptill. What a way to go, maybe this is the moment of luck New Zealand need to drag themselves back into the contest. Santner serves up a juicy delivery and Vince can only swat it into the safe hands of Guptill. He's really frustrated with that, he's done all the hard work and can't see England over the line.

19.6
2
Patrick Brown to Daryl Mitchell. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg for 2 runs, fielded by Gregory. That was a pretty decent start to the tour for England, their fielding looked sharp and their bowling was skilful. Every time it looked like New Zealand were building momentum they lost a wicket, meaning they could never maintain a high scoring rate. With all the attention on the young lads today it was actually two experienced heads who stood out, Ross Taylor top scoring for the Kiwis and Chris Jordan snaring the best bowling figures for the visitors. Tim Southee will have to marshal his troops well in the second innings to defend that total.

OUT! Caught. Patrick Brown to Ross Taylor. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Bairstow. This is a big moment for Pat Brown, his first international wicket and it's a big one in Ross Taylor. Bairstow takes a very similar catch to the one Vince dropped in the previous over. England squeezing well, New Zealand look like they will end up under par in Christchurch.

SIX! Chris Jordan to Ross Taylor. Off cutter short, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, well timed in the air under control over deep square leg for 6 runs. That's a trademark Taylor swipe for his first six of the day. Already he is making England pay for the dropped chance.

SIX! Chris Jordan to Daryl Mitchell. Full toss, down leg side on the front foot flick, well timed in the air under control over deep square leg for 6 runs. APPEAL! Chris Jordan to Ross Taylor. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, by Billings, appeal made for Caught. The bowler appeals but the keeper isn't interested, just like the umpire, however Jordan has convinced Morgan to belatedly go for a review. It's a hopeful one though and a waste because Taylor hit the ground not the ball.

OUT! Caught. Chris Jordan to Tim Seifert. Slower ball full toss, off stump on the front foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Bairstow. Seifert trudges off seething, both with the shot and the decision. Jordan gets the delivery all wrong and it is very close to being too high. The third umpire takes a look and deems it okay. The pull shot was horribly spooned high into the deep, Bairstow had plenty of time to settle underneath it.

OUT! Caught. Chris Jordan to Colin Munro. Full toss, to leg on the front foot flick, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid wicket, by Morgan. That's the perfect way to finish the powerplay for England. Not the greatest delivery Jordan will ever bowl but in this format you take the wickets however they come. Munro will be disappointed to have got a start and not kicked on. The bat skewed in his hands as he made contact and it presented a simple catch to the England skipper.

Start of New Zealand Innings. Welcome to coverage of the First T20I between New Zealand and England at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. It feels like only yesterday that these two sides were locked in an unforgettable, nail-biting battle at Lord's and now just over 100 days later and 11,000 miles away they clash again - albeit in a different format with much less pressure on. Another World Cup looms just around the corner so these two teams are searching for the squad and the plans that can take them all the way to yet another final. With senior players rested by both the hosts and the tourists, this series is a great opportunity for some less familiar faces to show their talents on the international stage. The Black Caps, who have been inserted by Eoin Morgan, will be pleased to have Colin Munro and Lockie Ferguson in their team after their success in the warm-up fixtures. Meanwhile England hand debuts to Lewis Gregory, Pat Brown and Sam Curran after consistent performances domestically in the T20 Blast and in Curran's case the IPL. This should be a really entertaining match at a beautiful venue hosting it's first ever T20I.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Santner to Dawid Malan. Stock length ball, off stump down the track driving, thick edge in the air uncontrolled to short third man, by Sodhi. Malan departs, he never really got going and now pays the price for trying to force the issue. New Zealand needed this, the change of pace has brought a change in fortune for them.

FOUR! Tim Southee to Dawid Malan. Back of a length, down leg side on the back foot pulling, well timed in the air under control past deep backward square leg for 4 runs, dropped catch by Guptill. Almost a screamer, if anyone in this New Zealand team would be capable of catching this it would be Guptill. He gets a decent hand on it and still the ball makes it to the rope, that tells you the immense power with which it was hit.
