Yuvraj Arrested In Alleged Casteist Remarks Case: Haryana Police

Former India cricketer, Yuvraj Singh was arrested earlier this year during the curfew. On his Instagram live discussion with Rohit Sharma, he referred to Yuzvendra Chahal as ‘bhangi.’ Following this, an FIR was filed in Hansi against the player for his attitude of confronting the Indian leg-spinner. Yuvraj, on the other hand, later clarified that he never engaged in any type of inequality.

Rajat Kalsan, a resident of Hansi, filed an FIR under different provisions of the IPC and the SC/ST Act. According to Kalsan, Yuvraj Singh made an inappropriate comment while pointing to another player (Chahal). As a result, Yuvraj joined the inquiry in accordance with the court’s instructions.

According to The News, Yuvraj Singh got arrested in response to his controversial remark but was quickly freed on temporary bail. “The SP said he was released on interim bail after the arrest. She said that the police had already recovered the phone of the cricketer,” the report read.

Yuvraj was imposed under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, residence, race, place of birth, language, etc., and 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), Scheduled Tribes (Prevention and Atrocities) Act and Section 3(1)(u) of the Scheduled Castes.

Furthermore, Yuvraj Singh has petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court, claiming innocence in the matter. He has also requested that the FIR be overturned.

Surprisingly, the Instagram live video involving Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma became viral a few months after the former’s remark about Chahal. He had stated, “Ye bhangi log ko Yuzi ko koi kaam nahi hai. Yuzi ne dekha kya video daala apni family ke saath.” (This roughly translates to – These ‘bhangi’ people Yuzi has no work). #YuvrajSinghmaafimaango was also trending on social media asking the cricketer to apologise.

Yuvraj then issued an explanation, claiming that his words were misread and that he had no intention of hurting anyone. “This is to clarify that I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of the people. I believe in dignity of life and respect each individual without any exception”.

I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal,” Yuvraj had written in his tweet.
