Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 prize money increase

The Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Prize Money has been officially announced, creating excitement across the cricketing world. Fans and players alike are eager to see how the prize pool reflects the growing recognition of women’s cricket.

What Led to the Drastic Cash Prize Increase?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set this year’s total prize purse at $13.88 million. A monumental leap from the $3.5 million in 2022 and outstripping the $10 million awarded at the previous men’s World Cup. ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the boost as “a landmark moment for women’s cricket”. Aligning with the council’s strategy to promote gender equality and amplify the profile of women’s cricket globally.

This surge in funding seeks to ensure women cricketers receive financial recognition on par with men if they pursue the sport professionally. The pay parity announcement, introduced ahead of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, underlines this commitment and aims to empower female athletes with increased visibility and resources.

Breaking Down the New Prize Structure

The 13th edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30, 2025, will see the champions take home $4.48 million—up from $1.32 million in 2022, a 239% hike. Runners-up will be awarded $2.24 million. A huge rise from the $600,000 given three years ago. Even the two losing semi-finalists will each earn $1.12 million.

All group stage participants are guaranteed $250,000, with every group stage win earning an additional $34,314. These figures are unprecedented and reflect a strong drive to attract talent, grow the fan base, and sustain competitive standards in women’s cricket well into the future.

Will this historic investment spark a new era for women’s cricket, inspiring greater participation and viewership worldwide?
