Will Ashwin and Jadeja play in the 2nd test vs Australia for BGT 2024?

Team India is set to make some changes to their starting XI for the second Test against Australia in Adelaide, which starts on December 6. With Rohit Sharma returning, he and Shubman Gill will probably replace Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel. While changes to the batting order are evident, the inclusion of Rohit and Gill leaves the bowling lineup in question. So let’s take a look at Will Ashwin and Jadeja play in the 2nd test vs Australia.

During the first Test, India had brought in three pacers in their starting lineup Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana. The lineup also included the debutant all-rounder Nitish Reddy alongside Washington Sundar, leaving out veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja from the XI. Where do Ashwin and Jadeja come into play, in the remaining BGT series?

The Bowling Attack Against Australia

Cheteshwar Pujara who has always proved to be a major player in Team India’s vibrant success against Australia, has backed the strong bowling lineup which was used in the first test. The lineup which featured Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Harshit Rana in the first Test, has shown controlled and disciplined performance.

He also praised Washington Sundar for his all-around contributions, emphasizing that Sundar’s batting was the primary reason for his selection, but his bowling performances were also crucial.

By dismissing the need to bring in Ashwin, Jadeja, or Prasidh Krishna, and instead backing the combination of Bumrah, Siraj, Rana, and Sundar to maintain their spot in the team. This alignment, according to him, is the best choice for the second Test.

Senior Supervision: The Importance Of Senior Players

Abhishek Nayar the assistant coach of Team India, believes that senior players play an important role by supporting the team’s priorities. The decision on finalizing the playing XI is tough, and not everybody agrees to it. The coach mentioned how Ashwin and Jadeja support the team-first agenda, which makes decision-making an easy job for the team.

For the 1st Test, India opted to play Washington Sundar due to his form and batting ability on bouncy pitches. Despite their exclusion, Nayar highlights how Ashwin and Jadeja’s commitment and experience play an important role in the team’s collective effort to win this important test series.
