Why Unmukt Chand not selected in USA team: Once a captain of team India, now staying in USA with a dream to play for the US national team.
Chand was the captain of the under-19 Indian team that won the U-19 title in 2012. He played decent number of games in IPL (Indian Premier League), but mostly remembered for his first ball duck in the first ball of season opener of IPL 2023.
The 31-year-old is actively participating in the US leagues – Minor Cricket League and Major Cricket League and is currently playing for Los Angeles Knight Riders in the ongoing season of MLC 2024.
Chand once again shocked everyone with his batting skills after smashing a 45-ball 68 in his Los Angeles first match of the season. His knock played a crucial role in guiding LAKR to 162 and eventually won the match.
Despite playing for the USA cricket leagues, Chand is yet to get a chance to play for the national team.
Why Unmukt Chand not selected for USA T20 World Cup squad
The former India player retired himself from India cricket in 2021 and moved to USA with a desire to play in the US team, but despite ticking all the boxes to be included in national team, Chand was not selected in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
He was very hopeful for the selection, but the snub disappointed the talented batsman.
Chand took to his X account and wrote, “Irony of life- I keep hearing people cribbing about unfair systems in place and the need for healthy changes, but when the same people come to power, they practise the same unjust means too. It’s high time we bring the change within ourselves and stand firm for what’s right.”
The United States of America team had a great outing in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which India won. The co-host reached the super 8s stage of the tournament after beating Canada and Pakistan in the first round.
