Delhi Capitals have officially announced Axar Patel as their captain for the IPL 2025, Axar Patel was retained by Delhi Capitals for Rs 16.4 Crore for IPL 2025 mega auction. Axar Patel, who briefly captained Delhi in a 2024 match against RCB, has now been given the responsibilities to lead the team. Axar, with 274 T20 matches, 3088 runs, and 239 wickets, has extensive experience and leadership qualities.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the team’s balanced squad and leadership depth. DC chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi and co-owner Parth Jindal praised Axar’s growth within the team, recognizing his contributions since 2019. Axar takes charge ahead of DC’s IPL 2025 opener against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led by former DC captain Rishabh Pant.
Why did KL Rahul Reject the leadership role?
KL Rahul who has a IPL career of 12 years, has been able to amass a total of 4,683 runs in 132 matches with an average of 45.47. He will be playing in his fifth franchise, after being signed by the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
The reason why he refused to lead the team is still unknown to us, but he has recently been talking about teamwork and spirit, wherein he added how he loved to contribute as a team member and loved adding depth to the batting lineup.
